Description:
Small, brown clay teapot with lid; updated version of traditional Yixing ware. Compressed globular body on round foot ring; spout described by the artist as "resembling a pig's snout" (i.e. flared opening, constricted waist, and wide base where it joins vessel body). Sieve at interior base of spout. C-shaped handle--with steam hole--sited high on shoulder of pot. Lid with tall knob. Slightly concave base incised with artist's signature and date.
Inscriptions:
1. (Jan Stuart, 23 September 1997) The teapot is signed on the bottom with the artist's name written in Chinese characters and with a date in Arabic numerals -- 10.6.91. The series number, 670, is also neatly engraved into the bottom.
