Mu Lin was a great-grandson of Mu Ying ?? (1345-1392), who was an adopted son of Zhu Yuanzhang, Emperor Taizu ?????? (1328–1398; reigned 1368-1398), founder of the Ming dynasty.

An Guo was a wealthy collector from Wuxi ??, in Jiangsu province, China during the Ming Dynasty.

Geng Zhaozhong was the son of Prince Jingnan Geng Jimao ?????? (died 1671) and a military leader, art collector, and art connoisseur during the Qing Dynasty.

Geng Jiazuo was the son of Geng Zhaozhong, as well as an official and collector. Geng Jiazuo remains formally unidentified, but his seals appear on objects alongside those of his father’s.
[5] This work comes from an album of eighteen paintings, titled “Lidai mingbi jisheng ce” ???????, and was recorded in the catalogue of Pang Yuanji’s personal collection. See Pang Yuanji, “Xuzhai minghua lu” ?????, (Shanghai: Privately published, 1909), p. 11-14b, leaf 15.

Tonying and Company, New York, invoice to Freer Gallery of Art, dated January 22, 1935, and marked approved on March 2, 1935. One of the “3 Chinese album paintings” described on the invoice.
Tonying and Company was a gallery established in Paris in 1902 by Zhang Renjie ??? (1877–1950), who was also known as Zhang Jingjiang ???. The gallery specialized in high-quality Asian arts and antiquities. The company later established a branch in New York, NY (665 Fifth Avenue in 1925 and 5 East 57th Street in 1946).
