Abstract:
This field book is a typed transcript of an original field book, that is part of a collection of Waldo L. Schmitt papers. Schmitt was a carcinologist. During the summers of 1924 and 1925, Schmitt was at the Carnegie Institution's Marine Laboratory at Tortugas, Florida, surveying the crustacean fauna of the area, identifying crustaceans found in the stomachs of fishes, and taking underwater photographs. The original field book concerned research conducted from May 30 to June 27, 1925, at the Dry Tortugas, Florida. It included unbound pages 119 to 148 of a notebook, covered in handwritten notes and marginalia. On the first page is the date "1925", followed by a list of 11 scientists: "Pr. William H. Longley, Dr. David Hill Tennant, J. M. Valentine, Wm. Randolph Taylor, Paul Conger, Wm. N. Miller, Dr. Caswell Grave, Dr. Albert Mann, Dr. H. Boschma, Dr. H. V. Wilson", and "Bartsch, last two weeks". In the transcript are inserted two handwritten leaves of field notes.
