Abstract:
Field book of banding forms that are survey records on migratory birds specimens collected in Egypt for the Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey. From the finding aid (SIA RU000435): "The Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey (PMS), a survey of migratory birds, their ectoparasites and the viruses they carry, was conducted in the eastern Mediterranean from 1966 to 1971. The primary PMS operation site was in northern Egypt. Surveys were also conducted in Cyprus and Israel. The PMS involved scientists of the Smithsonian Institution, the United States Naval Medical Research Unit, and Yale University, and was funded by the Army Research Office, the Smithsonian Foreign Currency Program, and the Smithsonian Research Foundation. George E. Watson, Chairman, Department of Vertebrate Zoology, and Curator, Division of Birds, National Museum of Natural History, was Principal Investigator". Surveys were also conducted in Uganda. There are ten forms per leaf. The forms are dated from February 24 to May 17, 1971, and numbered 050-02847 to 050-03000. A card is attached to the first leaf, giving teh period of research (Spring 1971) and the range of numbers. The banding forms show the band number, the name of the bird species, the date and locality of capture and release, and data on sex, age, fat, wing, weight, parasites and molt, with additional remarks.
