Abstract:
Field book of banding forms that are survey records on migratory birds specimens collected in Egypt for the Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey. From the finding aid (SIA RU000435): "The Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey (PMS), a survey of migratory birds, their ectoparasites and the viruses they carry, was conducted in the eastern Mediterranean from 1966 to 1971. The primary PMS operation site was in northern Egypt. Surveys were also conducted in Cyprus and Israel. The PMS involved scientists of the Smithsonian Institution, the United States Naval Medical Research Unit, and Yale University, and was funded by the Army Research Office, the Smithsonian Foreign Currency Program, and the Smithsonian Research Foundation. George E. Watson, Chairman, Department of Vertebrate Zoology, and Curator, Division of Birds, National Museum of Natural History, was Principal Investigator". Surveys were also conducted in Uganda. A photocopy of a folder cover was inserted in the folder and marked with numbers "050 02615-2809" and the note "Checked against printout. Retraps entered." The banding forms are dated from February 28 to October 27, 1970 and numbered 050-02615 to 050-02812. They show the date, locality of capture and release, bird species, band number, sex (as determined by plumage, soft parts, or otherwise), age (as determined by plumage, soft parts, skull or otherwise), weight, fat, molt, and additional remarks.
