Abstract:
This field book is a folder of lists of cross-references on specimens (birds skeletons) as part of the Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey. From the finding aid (SIA RU000435): "The Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey (PMS), a survey of migratory birds, their ectoparasites and the viruses they carry, was conducted in the eastern Mediterranean from 1966 to 1971. The primary PMS operation site was in northern Egypt. Surveys were also conducted in Cyprus and Israel. The PMS involved scientists of the Smithsonian Institution, the United States Naval Medical Research Unit, and Yale University, and was funded by the Army Research Office, the Smithsonian Foreign Currency Program, and the Smithsonian Research Foundation. George E. Watson, Chairman, Department of Vertebrate Zoology, and Curator, Division of Birds, National Museum of Natural History, was Principal Investigator". Surveys were also conducted in Uganda. The lists are stapled together into four groups, two of which are lists of numbers filled on yellow legal pad paper while the two other groups are photocopies of the preceding two lists. The first series of lists is titled "PMS series, skeleton, field number to stag number index. Egypt". It is organized in two pairs of columns facing each other, PMS field numbers on the left and stag numbers on the right. The last leaf, loose, includes stag numbers for skeletons without any field number. The second series includes leaves that are covered with numbers and symbols for the sex of skeletons, with names of species.
