Abstract:
Folder of forms with carbon copies for field notes that are survey records on migratory birds specimens collected in Egypt for the Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey. From the finding aid (SIA RU000435): "The Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey (PMS), a survey of migratory birds, their ectoparasites and the viruses they carry, was conducted in the eastern Mediterranean from 1966 to 1971. The primary PMS operation site was in northern Egypt. Surveys were also conducted in Cyprus and Israel. The PMS involved scientists of the Smithsonian Institution, the United States Naval Medical Research Unit, and Yale University, and was funded by the Army Research Office, the Smithsonian Foreign Currency Program, and the Smithsonian Research Foundation. George E. Watson, Chairman, Department of Vertebrate Zoology, and Curator, Division of Birds, National Museum of Natural History, was Principal Investigator". Surveys were also conducted in Uganda. The forms are numbered 2851 to 2909 and include carbon copies, except the first one, which is not dated. Dated forms range from December 11 to December 21, 1966. Before the two last ones is inserted a note with the word "West". The forms show a number, date, preparator's name, bird species, ID, dates processed and collected, locality, and data on sex and its determination (through dissection, plumage, soft parts or another method), age and its determination through skull, plumage, soft parts or otherwise, weight, fat, molt, source, method of collection (netted, lime, shot, other), way of disposition (skin, skeleton, alcoholic, discarded or other), ectoparasites examination, virus report, blood tests, and additional remarks.
