Abstract:
Field book of banding forms for field notes that are survey records on migratory birds specimens collected in Egypt for the Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey. From the finding aid (SIA RU000435): "The Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey (PMS), a survey of migratory birds, their ectoparasites and the viruses they carry, was conducted in the eastern Mediterranean from 1966 to 1971. The primary PMS operation site was in northern Egypt. Surveys were also conducted in Cyprus and Israel. The PMS involved scientists of the Smithsonian Institution, the United States Naval Medical Research Unit, and Yale University, and was funded by the Army Research Office, the Smithsonian Foreign Currency Program, and the Smithsonian Research Foundation. George E. Watson, Chairman, Department of Vertebrate Zoology, and Curator, Division of Birds, National Museum of Natural History, was Principal Investigator". Surveys were also conducted in Uganda. There are five forms per leaf. A note in pencil "Rewrite this page" was attached to the first form. The forms show the name of the bird species, the band number, the date and locality of capture and release, and data on sex, age, fat, wing, weight, molt and additional remarks. The forms are numbered 050-01009 to 050-02300; 050-02401 to 050-02846; 050-05001 to 050-05113, and their dates range from September 1, 1969 to December 31, 1970. The majority of collected specimens were Oriolus oriolus (Eurasian golden oriole), with a few more species researched from October 1969 to December 1970.
