Abstract:
The 15 drawings of Lophobranchii were created by Joseph Drayton from fish that were observed or collected during United States Exploring Expedition, 1838-1842. Some illustrations are initial sketches with extensive notes or highly detailed drawings. Drawings generally have less information -- scientific name, assigned numbers, and sometimes note indicating whether actual size as depicted. There are sketches and notes on the backside of some images.
