The notebook documents the geological and paleontological work of William J. Sando in Australia and Japan, July 9 - August 21, 1988. Entries are dated and narrative in structure. They are short but provide concise details about travel (transportation, accommodations, times, expenses), to-do lists, personal observations, pictures taken, weather, work completed, daily activities, meetings, names of colleagues with whom worked. He records observations of reef formations, possibly at Herm Island, Australia, and field trip to Valley of Hell hot spring in Japan.
