The notebook documents the field work of William A. Oliver in New York, August 21, 1953 - July 16, 1960.Notes are organized into five sections. Section one covers June 28 to July 16, 1960. Entries are dated and headed with "loc" number, followed by location information, usually a combination of street names, landmarks, quadrangle name. Details include description of terrain (including presence of biostromes), and what may be specimen numbers (####) with remarks. Sometimes includes notes noting presence and type of fossils. Section two covers field work completed in Manlius limestone of Helderberg plateau, July 3 - August 31, 1957, and July 16, 1959. Section three is entitled "Onondaga 1957, 1958, 1959," however also includes work from August 21, 1953 as well as August 24 - September 4, 1957, August 2, 1958. Entries contain geological sections. Section 4, is entitled "Onondaga notes, 1959 worked with Len. Wilson as assistant." Entries cover June 22 - July 5, 1959. Section 5 is entitled "New York field notes, Upper Devonian, 1957, 1959," and covers September 5, 1957.
