Abstract:
The folder contains 2 letters to Robert Ridgway pertaining to genus Quiscalus. In the letter from Wm. C. Avery to Ridgway, dated June 11, 1890, sent from Greensboro, Alabama, Avery describes the location and conditions under which multiple specimens of Grackle were collected at his home. The letter also describes the behavior and development of the young birds that were subsequently kept as pets once the parents were killed. Avery also describes other Grackles observed in his region at various times of year. In the letter from F. W. Langdon to Ridgway, dated December 1, 1884, sent from Cincinnati, Ohio, Langdon confirms the collection of specimens of Quiscalus but indicates that the skins were not preserved.
