Abstract:
These black and white photographs pertain to Stejneger's extensive study of the fur seals of the North Pacific-Bering Sea. Depicted in these photographs are rookeries, fur seals, fur sealing, and sled dogs. Locations depicted include North Rookery on Bering Island (officially Ostrov Beringa) and Copper Island (officially Ostrov Mednyy). A document entitled "List of Commander Island Negatives for Dr. Stejneger" dated May 24, 1895 and a photocopy of the document are also included. Photographs are undated. Some or all of these photographs may be published.
