Abstract:
The field book documents Remington Kellogg's survey of Rampart Cave in Grand Canyon National Park with Watson Perrygo for the US National Museum, March 14 - May 12, 1942. Contains dated entries that include travel details (distance, mode of travel, destinations, time of day, accommodations), colleagues with whom he met, individuals with whom he worked in the field (included National Park Service staff and members of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)), campsites, daily activities, and specimen collecting. There is an explanation of specimen numbering and how it relates to specimen location. Specimen information covers number, square, measurement of depth, as well as kind of fauna and bone. Specimens include various fauna (mice, rats, snakes, lizards), as well as dung and feces from various kinds of animals including sloth, as well as bone fragments. Notes indicate Kellogg collected plants, insects, and birds in the vicinity. Also mentions collecting in Joshua Tree forest.
