Abstract:
These field notes were created as part of the ‘Smithsonian African Expedition, Under the Direction of Col. Theodore Roosevelt (1909-10).' This volume contains a list of initial identifications for specimens numbered 1 – 1858. Pasted throughout are typed notes documenting landmarks and geographic features (e.g., West Forest Kenia Station, Katheroni River) and altitudes. The geographic coverage spans what was then known as British East Africa, including frequent references to the West Kenya Forest Station and the "giant heath" zone. Also found in this volume is a typewritten page entitled ‘Documents on the plaque of Dr. E. A. Mearns on Plummer’s Island’ which cites documents from the Washington Biologists’ Field Club Archives (compiled by Dan H. Nicolson, 2000).
