Abstract:
This item consists of a folder of data collected at sea by Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program staff, 1965, on Northern Grid Survey 23 aboard the U.S.N.S. Shearwater. The Northern Grid Survey covered a fixed grid in the Pacific Ocean, to the south of the Hawaiian Islands. Materials include: bird observation data, fix data, and climatological data. Bird observation sheets include time, species, #, dir., hgt., remarks, and loc. Remarks include phase (light phase or dark phase), change or course direction, and other notes. Fix data sheets include date, time and position data, distance data, time of fix, type of fix, longitude, and latitude. Daily observation summary sheets include abundance summary data for birds including abundance of bird groups (Shearwater-Petrel-Albatross group, Tropicbirds, etc.). Climatological data sheets include: recorded time, lat., long., pres wea, vis, slp, dry b, wet b, dew pt, hum%, tl sky, opa sky, waves, sea temp, wind s, wind d, course, speed. Also included is a typed photocopied report.
