Abstract:
The notebook documents the mammal collecting of C. O. Handley in Panama and Bocas del Toro, March - April 1987 and February - April 1988. Includes a calendar with notes on destinations and weather. Includes loose inserts of notes on traps and miscellaneous notes. The journal entries are dated and begin with location or route and describe travel details (modes of transportation i.e. flight numbers, time of day, accommodations, logistics), daily activities, colleagues with whom worked, weather, observed wildlife (lists of birds), detailed descriptions of observed vegetation, personal observations, local inhabitants, work related to Smithsonian Tropical Institute [STRI]; specimen collecting methods and locations,and lists of collected specimens. There are notes in the margins relating to costs or subject matter (i.e. Bocata Indians). Locations are often identified by name of island or bay.
