Abstract:
The notebook documents H. S. Ladd's work in Fiji during a series of trips in 1964 - 1966, 1968, 1973. His work in Suva, Fiji in May 1964, during which he took samples; May 1965 at a drill hole in Ewa (collected samples); limestone quarry at Vanua Levu March 1966; reefs in May 1968; northern Fiji in July 1973. In each trip he describes purpose the trip, work completed, colleagues with whom worked, and layer compositions of samples including presence of plant remains. During 1968 trip, he notes observations taken from helicopter over reefs, compared to ground observations as well as descriptions of reef composition, measurements, and reef terrain. Entries for 1973 appear to be a numbered sample list (several numbering systems that are non sequential), and describe terrain, location, tide, and descriptions of daily work. Locations are usually described with island, reef, or lagoon name. Includes small map.
