Abstract:
This item refers to the unpublished manuscript of Henry Weed Fowler, entitled "The Fishes Obtained by the United States Exploring Expedition, 1838-1842, Under the Command of Captain Charles Wilkes". Fowler wrote the manuscript while at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, and sent it to the US National Museum in 1920. The manuscript consists of typewritten and handwritten materials and is divided into 6 folders: (1) Introduction, pp. 1-5; (2) Route of the Expedition, pp. 6-48; (3-6) Description of Species, pp. 49-760.
