Abstract:
The field book documents C. O. Handley's field work in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia in July 28 - August 25, 1941; typed notes of Dr. Hooper while in Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina for July 9 - August 30, 1941; and notes of Handley from Virginia during October 18, 1941 - January 31, 1942. The notebook is typed. Entries are dated and headed with location. They describe travel details (destinations, routes), work with Dr. E. T. Hooper and student Jack King (both affiliated with the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor), weather, collecting methods (type, quantity, time of day, list of campsites), specimens collected (type, quantity), interactions with local inhabitants, terrain, flora (sometimes as list with type of habitat) and fauna observed, maps with notations of routes, and sketches. Hooper's journal content is similar to that described above and is followed by a table of specimens collected for University of Michigan Museum of Zoology. Also includes specimens collected by Jack A. King.
