Abstract:
The journal documents field work of Charles O. Handley, Jr., in Panama, 1980 - 1982. The notebook is divided by year. The first journal covers August 2 - October 24, 1980. Entries are dated and headed with location or route. Entries state that work is a continuation of the BCI Bat Project; and related to marking and monitoring bat fauna as well as their food habits and reproduction. Handley lists research assistants, travel details (routes, destinations, mode of transportation), expenses, activities with time of day, work of colleagues, weather and humidity, personal and professional observations, observations of birds and mammals, vegetation and terrain (including hand drawn maps of collecting sites), observations and work with figs, collecting methods, and specimens collected. There are cumulative monthly totals for captures and cumulative totals for 1976 - 1980. |The journal for September 1 - November 22, 1981 documents work for the BCI bat project. It includes details similar to what is described above. He discusses local staff, and includes a photocopy of map with colored hand drawn notes showing locations of collecting,and study of figs.|The journal for August 25 - November 10, 1982 documents field work in Panama in the same format, including hand drawn maps with notes of routes, loose inserted notes on collected bats, and expenses.
