Abstract:
The materials document the field work of Charles O. Handley, Jr., in Panama, for 1959 and 1960. The cover states that it includes notes from 1964. The journal and mammal notes cover 1959 and 1960. The notes from 1959 begin with mammal notes organized by type (scientific name) followed by date and location (combination of region, town, and campsite). Descriptions cover collectors (sometimes local inhabitant), collecting methods (type of collecting, time of day), specimens collected, specimen appearance (i.e. color of eyes), lists (specimen type, sex, quantity, date), observed flora and fauna (including animal calls), and other activities occurring at the time of collecting. Descriptions vary, some specimen descriptions are extensive. Some include sketches of anatomy. Locations include vicinity of Darién. |Includes a list of skeletons needed at USNM, specimen counts for Tacarcuna village camp for January - February - March 1959, and specimen lists with type, sex, number, measurements listed per campsite. There are species notes for collecting in Panama (Bocas del Toro) various dates between January - March 1960. Entry structure and content is similar to what was described above. Location information includes island names and elevation.
