Abstract:
This folder contains documents compiling observation data on Hawaiian monk seals on islands of Hawaii. Included are a table of data from Pearl and Hermes Reef for 1963 and 1964, a table listing seal tags from Kure Atoll for 1966-1967, two tables with observation records from Kure Atoll and Pearl and Hermes Reef from 1915 to 1934, and one table compiling numbers of Hawaiian monk seals tagged in the northwestern Hawaiian Islands from 1957 through 1969. Also in the folder are photocopies of three reports: "Census and observations of Hawaiian monk seal on Pearl and Hermes Reef, Lisianski and Laysan Islands, May 31 to June 11, 1967," "Summary report on the status of the Hawaiian monk seal, Monachus schauinslandii, Laysan and Lisianski Islands, 10 - 22 June, 1966", and "Population Dynamics and Inter-atoll Movement of the Hawaiian Monk Seal" by William O. Wirtz, II. One handwritten document contains comments on the report by Wirtz; there is another document with comments and a document containing monk seal references.
