Abstract:
This folder contains tables and photocopies of data sheets reporting results from the Smithsonian Oceanographic Sorting Center (SOSC) of stomach content analysis for Pacific Ornithological Oceanographic Project (POOP) 4, SOSC acc. no. 77. The 43 data sheets have station numbers in the range of 0506 to 0514, 0817 to 0849,and 20228 to 20256. Each data sheet records the stomach contents of an individual bird. Birds were caught April 28 through July 24, 1964. Stomach contents were recorded in December 1964 and May 1965. Bird species include Pterodroma species, Wedge-tailed Shearwater, Puffinus pacificus, Phaethon species, Sterna fuscata [Onychoprion fuscatus], Fregata minor, Fairy Tern, Red. Phalarope, Red-tailed Tropicbird, Tern species, and Common Noddy. Fields include species, station no., SOSC acc no., lat. & long., date, time caught, direction flying, squid, ceph. beaks, fish, fish remains, crustacea, other animals, parasitic animals, notes on squid, notes on fish, and general notes. Also included are two tables: "Bird Stomachs Collected in Central Pacific" is a three-page typewritten table that lists field tag no. (= station no. on data sheet), with species, sex, and date of capture for each. The table "SOSC ref. no. 77 POOP 4" lists station number, bird name, ceph. bks., squid, fish, fish rem., crust., other, and parasite animals. Localities are on the North Pacific between 10°18' and 22°52'N, and 151°00' and 173°49'W. The tables list more field numbers than are represented by the data sheets in the folder.
