Abstract:
Two notebooks document the end of William Healey Dall's travels in coastal Alaska, August - October 1868. Journal entries continue to July 28, 1869. Entries are chronological and journal style. They are entered on the right hand side pages. April 19- July 28 are entered from the back, upside down. He discusses weather, daily activities, purchases of provisions, preparation of specimens, interactions with colleagues and local people, destinations, experiences sailing along the coast, and bird specimens collected. Journal covering time at home describes experiences working with Baird, lectures attended, work completed on specimens, and other routine events. In the back of the diary, he maintains an accounting of expenses. Second notebook includes short entries and expenses for August 27 - October 1.
