Abstract:
B. J. Hayward completed field work in Ghana as part of the African Mammal Project (Smithsonian Institution), July 15 - September 1, 1967. He worked with Julius Geest and Walter Pople. Entries are dated and headed with location (sometimes latitude and longitude). Entries describe temperature and weather, routes traveled, time of day, terrain, habitat and vegetation (including crops) viewed enroute, collecting methods (nets and their set ups (including a sketches), trap quantities and locations), observed wildlife and behaviors, specimens collected (quantity, sex, and type, sometimes per collecting method), daily activities, travel challenges including road conditions. Includes sketch of habitat in collecting area. Location information includes distances from towns named. Locations include Accra, Anum, Legon, Nkawkaw (?), Jukwa, Keta, and Prince's Town.
