Abstract:
The field book documents Fielding Meek's work in New Jersey, May 16 - June 19, 1863. Pages are numbered, and entries are dated. Journal style entries detail daily activities, work with colleagues, sites visited, locations (often with geographical landmark, town, or property owner), descriptions of terrain, labels and noted cross sections, fossils, and characteristics and appearance of strata, rock, clay, and sand. Locations visited include marl pits and locations eroded by water sources (rivers, creeks). Locations include the vicinity of (New Jersey) Woodstown, Mullica Hill, Timber Creek [Big Timber Creek], New Egypt, and Tinton Falls, and Marshall Pits.
