Journal entries describe weather; descriptions of terrain, locations and travel in between. Journal entries are dated September 4 -21, 1858. At the back of the notebook is a list of expenses for "Kansas Expedition", dates August 23 - September 11, 1858. Locations include Judith River, Kansas River, Fort Leavenworth, Fort Riley, and Indianola.
