Abstract:
The field book documents A. H. Howell's field work in Alabama, May 1913 - December 21, 1915. He was assistant biologist for the US Biological Survey. Entries are dated and describe travel details (destinations, times of day, mode of transportation, accommodations, campsites), daily work, interactions and work with local staff and inhabitants, weather, and specimen collecting (mammals including beaver). Additional location information includes geological landmarks (i.e. swamps) and farms. Collecting locations include Sand Mountain, Alabama; the Alabama / Mississippi border (Petit Bois Island and Dauphin [Dauphine] Island).
