Abstract:
The journal documents the field work of Edward A. Goldman in Arkansas, Montana, South Dakota, July 7 - August 12, 1925. Notes start from the front and the back of the notebook. Entries are dated and describe travel details (destinations, time of day, routes), daily work, terrain and vegetation (including forage conditions), observations of wildlife (birds and mammals along with numbers), interactions with local staff and officials, and proposed elk trapping in National Bison Range. Entries include headings of flora and fauna followed by descriptions of habitat, numbers, and appearance. Additional location information includes names of ranches and ranger stations. At the end of the notebook are observations of the Bison Range and observations of "buffalo meat". Locations include Ozark National Forest, Arkansas; Dixon, Ninepipe Reservoir, National Bison Range, Montana; Wind Cave Game Preserve, South Dakota.
