Abstract:
The photograph album documents Alexander Wetmore's travels to Panama in 1956 to visit the Canal Zone Biological Area, and collect bird specimens in the Canal Zone and on Isla Coiba. Photographs are numbered, and captioned with location, description, and date. Subject matter includes structures and images of convicts and non-convicts of a penal colony on Coiba Island; examples of vegetation; examples of terrain (shorelines, beaches, wetlands, pastures, and forests); vessels used for transport; daily activities; images from offshore. Additional locations include the vicinity of El Hato and Rio San Juan.
