Abstract:
This field book contains data on nests and eggs collected by Mearns in Highland Falls, Orange County, New York from 3 June 1876 to 27 May 1891. Data fields for each set of eggs collected are as follows: nest number, parent's number, scientific name, date, locality, nest composed of, where and how placed, kind of tree, incubation, diameter of nest, description of eggs, measurement of eggs, and remarks. Not all fields are filled with data. Examples of commonly collected genera include turdus, mimus, geothlypis, melospiza, hydrochelidon, and vireo. Many other genera were collected. Nest numbers 1-612 are included. Range of parent numbers is approximately 1223-7469 (not in order). Pages 1-155 have data. A list entitled "Bds. coll. by C. H. Eagle" with numbers 595-598 and a list of sets of birds eggs is inserted at the beginning of the book.
