Abstract:
This field book is comprised of three sections documenting Mearns' botanical collecting along the Mexican Boundary during the years 1892 through 1894.|The first list covers collecting from May 3, 1892 to November 15, 1892. The list begins with numbers 1-226, which were compiled by W. A. Archer (1966) based on Mearns' Notes on Families and Species of the Mexican Boundary Survey and from herbarium specimens. Collection number 227 is blank and 228 - 655 are in Mearns' hand. Entries in this section include location and date, with some field identifications. Many entries are blank.|The second section contains more detailed notes on the flora of the "40 miles of desert, west of the Initial Monument (no. 1 new series) on the Rio Grande near El Paso." Collection dates for this section include October 28, 1893 to July 12, 1894. Collection numbers restart at 1 and continue to 470. Entries include binomials, location information, altitude, some plant descriptions, and occasional notes on abundance.|The third section includes a list of photographs taken of specimens during October 1893. The list includes photograph numbers 100 - 136. Entries generally include binomial, common name, location, and date.
