Abstract:
The black-and-white photographs document Edmund Heller's collecting in Africa. Subject matter includes animals, mostly specimens. For negatives, see Folder 40. Some photographs indicate they were taken during the Rainey African Expedition, 1911-1912. These include images of live animals in their habitat, and collected specimens. On the reverse side, some identify a number, sex, and type of animal, often listed by scientific name. Collected specimens include genus oryx, rodents, rhinoceros, cheetah(?), zebra, wildebeest, and tragelaphus. Locations include Guaso Nyiro [Ewaso Ng’iro]; Lololoki; Mazeras, Loita Plains, Kakamega, Nandiva, Amala River, and Nyuki [Oldoinyo Nyukie], Kenya.
