Abstract:
The field notes are the bird observations of L. Walkinshaw in Chippewa and Luce County, Michigan, 1930-1943. Some notes are hand written, though much of the book is made up of typed pages pasted into the book, alongside related photographs bird nests and nesting sites and maps with notes. Pages are numbered. Begins with bird counts, with data of type (common name), date, and year as well as totals and other animals seen (i.e. rodents and deer). Includes list of common and scientific names of plants in the area. This is followed by dated observations of Sandhill Cranes, headed with location. Include times of day, bird behaviors (including information such as sex, type, and assigned number if more than one bird described), bird songs, detailed descriptions of nests (numbered), bird location related to observer, environment, other wildlife, and vegetation. Locations in Michigan include the vicinity of Strongs, Sleeper Lake, and Newberry in Luce County.
