Abstract:
The notebook documents work of William W. Welsh completed near Gloucester, Massachusetts and Maine coast, Grampus stations 10273-10301, April 17-22 and May 10 - July 15, 1915. Dated entries describe herring fishing industry, reports about locations and abundance of sea herring, purse-seining, observations of sea herring numbers, and results of interviews with local captains. Data is recorded with station number, date, time, depth, fish counts, and collecting results. When netting, lists type and quantity of sea life caught. Locations include the vicinity of Gloucester and Provincetown, Massachusetts as well as Boothbay and Blue Hill Bay, Maine.
