Abstract:
The reports and specimen lists by William Stimpson detail specimens requested and collected for the National Museum of Natural History during the United States North Pacific Exploring Expedition (1853-1856), during 1854 while aboard the Vincennes. Reports detail quantity of species collected, method of collection, and issues with some collecting methods. In cases of dredging, descriptions are given of the type of makeup, and flora and fauna on the floor of the body of water. Specimens include shells, birds, lizards, invertebrates, reptiles, and fish. collecting occurred near Hong Kong and the Coarl Sea.
