Volume 70 are the journals Fred C. Sibley completed for the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program, 1963-1965. Includes a mixture of typed and hand written copies of journals. 1) is the journal of Fred C. Sibley for Southern Island Cruise [SIC] #5, June-July 1964. Dated entries are headed with location information and detail travel and daily activities; observations of birds; specimen collecting and preparation; weather; counts of types of birds, chicks, eggs and nests; summaries of flora and fauna per island. Locations include islands of Starbuck, Palmyra, Christmas [Kiritimati], Hawaii, American Samoa, Phoenix [Rawaki], Enderbury. McKean, Baker, and Howland. 2) is the journal and species accounts of Sibley for SIC #6, September 29 - November 29, 1964. Entries are dated and headed with island location, detailing daily activities; specimens collected; birds banded; egg counts (with measurements); bird, nest and egg observations with summaries; as well as observations of other wildlife (grouped by type). Locations in addition to those listed above include Winslow Reef, Gardner Island, Sydney and Birnie Island. Includes species summaries organized by island with dates and quantities. 3) is the journal for SIC #8, May 3 - July 3, 1965. It follows the same general format and content as journals listed above. Lists activities sometimes with time of day. Includes island summaries. Locations include additionally, Caroline Atoll and Malden Island. 4) is Sibley's miscellaneous catalogs, 1963-1965. These include a plant catalog organized by island and include date, number, type, description and details about whether commonly occurring; a fish catalog (collected at sea and near islands) that includes varying levels of details) with number, island, location quantity, type, physical description, sometimes sketches, method of collection, or measurements; a bird catalog with number, type, sex, organ measurements and weight; and an invertebrate catalog with number, quantity, description and collecting location.
