Color slides document work of Waldo L. Schmitt completed during the Smithsonian-Bredin Belgian Congo Expedition, 1955. Slides are labeled with numbers, locations, and descriptions. There are few dates listed, and some have no description. Subject matter includes vistas of terrain seen during travel; candid shots of local inhabitants at work including fishing; structures in communities; Pygmy communities; views of lakes and other bodies of water; participants collecting; views along the roadside; wildlife; and indigenous dancers. Locations in the Democratic Republic of Congo include Ishango, Goma, Lake Tanganyika,and Stanleyville [Kisangani].
