Abstract:

The manuscript by Waldo Schmitt (unpublished) covers the Smithsonian-Bredin Caribbean Expedition, 1960 and is titled, "The 1960 Smithsonian-Bredin Mayaland Expedition". The manuscript provides a detailed, chronological description of events, locations and anchorages visited, reasons for changes in itinerary, types of specimens collected and descriptions (i.e. jellyfish and insects), observations of mangrove swamps, Mayan ruins, weather, and historic background. Includes locations Ascension Bay [Bahía de la Ascensión] and Cozumel Island.
