Abstract:
This field book contains field notes on birds taken from 27 November 1977 to 10 March 1978. Notes contain daily lists of various birds spotted in Virginia. Most of the birds listed were observed at Eike's home on 6207 Newman Road, Fairfax or in the surrounding area. Birds observed at "Hampshire's pond" on 12-12-77 are also included. Other locations may be included. Notes occasionally include weather and temperature information, quantity, time spotted, and the sex of the birds. Symbol codes on the verso of the cover are as follows: triangle – outside kitchen window; “T” – standing feeder; upside-down “T” -- hanging feeder; "*" -- first seen. Rising and setting times for sun are occasionally noted. Three clippings are inserted near the entry for 3-10-78: “Denmark turns down pleas for falcons”, 10-7-77; “Sparrow stock gets a boost”, 1-14-78; “Rare smew makes 2d U.S. appearance”, 1-11-78.
