Abstract:
The color photographs document work of Smithsonian-Bredin Belgian Congo Expedition, 1955, led by Waldo Schmitt. Short captions are recorded on the reverse side. Subject matter includes local inhabitants, Uganda equator marker, shorelines, examples of terrain, fisherman, Shilluks, a mat market, candid images of participants at work, museums, local ferry, Egyptian artifacts. Locations include the vicinity of Malakal and Adok, Sudan; and locations in the Democratic Republic of Congo including Uvira.
