Abstract:
The diary documents Waldo Schmitt's work with the Fish and Wildlife Service during their Alaska King Crab Investigation, 1940. The dates include August 28 - December 8, 1940. Subject matter covers the vessel and its accommodations (including sketch); interactions between investigation participants; issues with collecting and voyage; sea conditions; specimens collected (fish listed by scientific name, shells, crab); information about local inhabitants and communities encountered; collecting sites; details about canneries; and vessels used.
