Abstract:
The diary contains notes made on the Hartford-Smithsonian West Indies Expedition, 1937 recorded by Waldo Schmitt. The notebook has preprinted dates, and they appear to be accurate. Most entries are between February 27 - May 20. They record time of day and temperature (sometimes hourly), locations, destinations, expenses, weather, and include short descriptions of daily activities, personal observations, comments about sites and local habits, wildlife observed, and voyage conditions. Locations include islands through out the West Indies and islands are listed at the top of the pages.
