This field book contains notes Hubbard took during his trip to the Lake Superior area (United States and Canada) 3-26 September 1889 and his expedition to Utah from 10 June to 22 September 1891. Hubbard's notes from Lake Superior include narrative descriptions of his daily collecting activities and chronicles his exploration of mines, cliffs, Rabbit Mountain, creeks, woods, and even his the yard of his friend "Harris" looking for insects often found in fungi, under leaves, and under decaying vegetation. Weather conditions are also noted. Notes from Utah narrate collecting events at Salt Lake, Garfield Beach, Park City, Lake Tahoe, Yellowstone, and Beaver Creek. A list of plants of Utah and Coleoptera found in Lake Tahoe, California are also included. Insects collected during these trips include Coleoptera, Diptera (including Ephydridae [shore fly or brine fly], and possibly other orders.
