Abstract:
The journal records Caleb Kennerly's observations during May 2 - August 31, 1860 during his participation in the Northwest Boundary Survey, 1857-1861. Entries are chronological, headed by date, and are journal style. Details included more personal than in some other field books in collection. Information includes daily activities of the captain and Survey participants, destinations, weather, descriptions of specimens caught, methods of travel, issues with supplies and transport, and description of terrain. Locations mentioned include Sinyakwateen [Seneacquoteen], Idaho; Cascade Mountains; Oregon; Washington; and British Columbia. In the back is a list of medications left at intermediate stops and a map of their route, with notes.
