This notebook was possibly compiled from field notes and consists of a list of beetles (Coleoptera) collected in the lower peninsula of Michigan by Hubbard and his colleague E. A. Schwarz in 1877. The notebook contains pages numbered 1-56. Occasional notes for some specimen with more precise information such as the month collected or more precise location or environmental information (for example the road it was found on or that it was found under a rock) are included. Several specimen were collected in April and May. Some specimen have what may be collector's numbers written next to them in the page margin. Inserted in the front of the notebook is an unbound list entitled "list of coleoptera found on the shore of Lake Superior at Marquette, June 26th to July 8th, 1877".
