Description:
Devra G. Kleiman's collection of field books is a portion of the SIA collection Devra G. Kleiman Papers, 1962-2009, 2013, Acc. 14-213. Devra Kleiman was one of the first female scientists at the National Zoological Park (NZP) where she was hired to manage the zoo's captive breeding program in 1972. She held several positions within organization including Acting Assistant Director for Animal Programs in the Office of Animal Programs, and eventually attained the position of Senior Scientist in 1997. Much of Kleiman's research and activities focused on the reintroduction of golden lion tamarins to the wild and the captive breeding of giant pandas. The field books within this collection relate to work she completed in East Africa (1974); Venezuela (1975); Yellowstone (1980); India and Nepal (1984); and Rwanda (1992).
