Description:
Vertical rectangle, folded in quarters. Large stylized orange man holding cane in gloved hand, wearing checkered vest, polka dot tie, and blue monocle, and smoking cigarette from which rises pink smoke cloud; arranged around his lower legs in upturned arc pattern, many angularly stylized but specific faces of men and women; in orange, blue, pink, white, and yellow; imprinted upper left corner in black: Visit Dante's / Infero. / The End Place, and vertically along right edge below center and within orange border of poster: Seymour Chwast. Verso (all in black and white within framing line): in top 1/3 of sheet, The Pushpin Group [in fraktur font over calligraphic meandor design]; in middle 1/3 of sheet, Canto XVIII from Dante's "Inferno;" bottom third of sheet, divided vertically into two boxes, two reproductions of newspaper clippings, the left referring to demise of the "New York Herald," the right referring to the awaited first issue of "New York Magazine;" across very bottom of sheet, publication information.
