Description:
Vertical rectangle. On white ground, colorful tiles in ancient Roman mosaic style form the face and upper torso of a male figure with blond hair, wearing a crown of laurel leaves against a ground of yellow tiles. The mosaic form is incomplete--fragments break away from the face and torso at the right, leaving a blank white background and individual tiles separate from the main composition. Above the figure, blue and green tiles form the words "I, CLAUDIUS." Superimposed on the tile composition is a silver goblet at upper right, which is turned over and pointing down, spilling red wine onto the face of the figure. A green spotted snake shown in profile curls from the bottom of the composition to the center, its head level with the figure's mouth. The snake's bright red tongue is against the male figure's chin. Printed text at top and left.
